Most travellers combine three things: the imperial cities (Marrakech, Fes, Meknes, Rabat), the mountains (High Atlas, Dades and Todra gorges) and the Sahara (Merzouga or Zagora). Add the blue city of Chefchaouen in the north or Essaouira on the Atlantic coast. Short on time? Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best months for a full tour, with warm days in the cities and comfortable nights in the desert. Winter is sunny and quiet but cold in the Atlas and the desert at night. July and August are very hot inland, so plan the coast and the mountains then.

April, May, October and early November are ideal: warm days, cooler nights and good conditions in the desert and the Atlas.
